ABOUT BITPESA
Elizabeth began to incubate the idea for BitPesa in 2011, while living in Kenya. Her work as Deputy Director at Planet Rating and as an Investment Advisor for the Grameen Foundation and Acumen Fund gave her insight into the challenges African businesses face trading across borders. BitPesa was born to solve these problems.
Today, West African currencies account for a significant portion of BitPesa’s business and the company continues to expand into other parts of Africa and frontier markets.
By creating liquidity in every major African currency, BitPesa is able to reduce settlement time from 2-14 days to just hours at one-third the cost. Backed by leading investors including Greycroft and Draper Associates, BitPesa processes over $300M in transaction volume annually and has grown its transaction volume 25x in the past two years.
