Kayode Akinkugbe, Managing Director & CEO at FBNQuest Merchant Bank.
Kayode Akinkugbe is the Managing Director/CEO of FBNQuest Merchant Bank Limited (formerly FBN Merchant Bank Limited) prior to this appointment, he was the Managing Director/CEO of FBN Capital Limited. FBNQuest Group is the investment banking and asset management arm of FBN Holdings plc. He joined FBN Capital in 2011 as Deputy Managing Director and was appointed MD/CEO in 2012. He has over 25 yeras’ experience working in major global and domestic investment/commercial banks.
As CEO, Kayode has led the transformation and growth of the Merchant Banking & Asset Management (“MBAM”) business of FBN Holdings Group, including the integration of 2 businesses into the FBN Capital group, the repositioning of all the businesses, and the strengthening of the operating platform and processes. In addition, he played a key role in the acquisition of Kakawa Discount House as the primary vehicle for developing a merchant banking platform.
Kayode returned to Nigeria in 2011, after spending 15 years in the UK working for leading global investment banks namely Deutsche, Credit Suisse & HSBC, of which 11 years were spent focusing on executing transactions in sub-Saharan Africa. He has a strong track record of building businesses, having successfully developed and managed the sub-Saharan Africa (ex-South Africa) investment banking franchises at Deutsche Bank and Credit Suisse.
In addition, he has a proven track record of meeting business and financial targets. Over the course of his career, he has originated and executed over US$9bn of structured debt, project finance, and equity financings syndicated across bank and capital markets; advised on over US$5bn of M&A transactions (privatisation, buy-side); and executed hedging solutions; and generated significant revenue for his stakeholders.
He has a strong network of contacts at Ministerial, Board and Senior Executive levels across the public and private sector in sub-Saharan Africa and with international institutions (investors, DFI’s, banks, etc) focused on emerging markets/sub-Saharan Africa.
He holds an M.Sc. in International Accounting & Finance from the London School of Economics, an MBA from Cranfield University, and a B.Sc. in Economics from the University of Ibadan.
